Reading - Kuri

Reading - Kuri
IALT: Identify and summarise the key ideas in the text.
Related imageFor the past 2 or 3 weeks, for reading the Kia Manawanui syndicate were put into reading groups and for each group there was a text shared with us, there is a text about Kuri, about life in Afghanistan and many more.

This text is ALL about how Kuri came to Aotearoa, the life of Kuri and there owners, what Kuri was like, and about WHY they disapeared. Kuri's were small dogs with long hair, pointed ears, and strong jaws. Back then at the time where polynesians arrived here in Aotearoa they would shave the Kuri's skin and use it as clothing to help keep themselves warm. Kuri's were GREAT animals and was helpful, Kuri's were very good a hunting and some were even pets.

This week for reading I have been reading the text 'Kuri' by Priscilla Wehi.
A key idea in this text is extinction, an example of extinction in this text is how Kuri's bones were found areas in Hawaii, the Cook Islands, and Aotearoa New Zealand. It also says in the text that Kuri's would also be eaten by their owners if they were starving. Another key idea is the disapearnce of the Kuri's. An example of the disapearnce of the Kuri's is in the text it says that they think that even before the pakeha arrived in Aotearoa New Zealand they think that the Kuri's could've been dying out. As time went by after the europeans arrived in Aotearoa - New Zealand Kuri's had puppies and many of them were wild, as it says in the text farmers didn't like dogs running or attacking their sheeps so the Kuri's were often killed.

Question of the blog - Why do you think the Kuri's started to disapear?
